17 dead in bus collision in Pakistan

KARACHI, Pakistan, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Two buses collided on Pakistan's National Highway in Sindh province, killing at least 17 people, police said.

The weekend incident occurred near Rasoolabad in the province's Khairpur district, Dawn newspaper reported, adding another 30 persons were injured.

The port city of Karachi is the capital of Sindh province.

The report quoted eyewitnesses as saying the driver of the Karachi-bound bus lost control while trying to overtake another vehicle and his vehicle collided head on with another bus coming from the opposite direction.

Police and people from nearby villages helped in the rescue effort to the take the injured to local hospitals, the report said.
