LEMDEN, Mauritania, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- Ousted Mauritanian President Sidi Ould Sheikh Abdellahi has been returned to his home after more than three months in prison, officials said Friday.

The former leader probably will remain under house arrest and ultimately be deported, Med Basin Newsline reported.

Abdellahi, removed from office in a military coup on Aug, 6, was returned to his home in Lemden Thursday from the prison in Nouakchott, where he has been since his overthrow.

The European Union had set a Nov. 20 deadline for the release of Abdellahl from prison.
