Ohio mom sentenced for handcuffing kids

CINCINNATI, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- A mother in Ohio who handcuffed two of her children was sentenced Friday to two years in prison.

Kena Ross was sentenced on a child endangering conviction. The Cincinnati Enquirer said Ross used plastic flexicuffs on two of her seven children to keep them out of the family's food.

"I love my kids and I ain't never tried to do anything to hurt them," Ross, 29, told Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Fred Nelson.

Assistant prosecutor Linda Calambas said Ross "has shown she is not a mother, just a person who gave birth to seven children."

Ross and her boyfriend, Christopher Gray, were arrested in August and charged with child endangering when one of her children showed up at the hospital with two-week-old burns on his hands. Ross told the doctor the child burned his hands by putting them in a running washing machine, the newspaper said.

A doctor then noticed handcuff marks on the child's wrist. The child said his mom cuffed him and a sibling to keep them from eating.

Gray's case was continued until Feb. 11, the report said.
