BOUMERDES, Algeria, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- A dozen al-Qaida agents have been sentenced to be executed in Algeria after the trial of more than 100 suspected al-Qaida operatives, a court said.

A criminal court in Algeria's Boumerdes province sentenced the dozen agents in absentia in relation to a deadly car bombing in January, the Med Basin News Line said Friday.

The suicide bombing targeted a police station in Tehnia and resulted in the deaths of three people and left nearly 10 others injured.

The 12 al-Qaida defendants, part of a prosecution effort against the militant organization during the last year, were convicted of taking part in January's attack.

The bombing, along with a series of other terror attacks during the last two years, have resulted in more than 100 trials of al-Qaida suspects conducted by the Algerian Justice Ministry.

An unidentified official said some of the convicted terrorists in the Tehnia bombing could still be in Algeria.

"We believe some of the terrorists are still in Algeria," the official told Med Basin News Line.
