KABUL, Afghanistan, Nov. 13 (UPI) -- The death toll rose to 19, including a U.S. soldier, Thursday in a suicide car-bomb attack on a U.S. military convoy in Afghanistan, officials said.
U.S. military officials said the attacker in an explosives-laden vehicle approached the convoy then veered into a crowded weekly market, The New York Times reported.
Dr. Ajmal Pardes, public health director in the area, said 74 people were injured.
Thursday is when families and other gather at the market area to buy animals and goods, CNN said.
GEO TV blamed the attack on the Taliban. The Pakistani network said two tanks also were destroyed.
On Wednesday, a tanker truck filled with explosives blew up outside the provincial council office in Kandahar, killing the driver and at least six other people, the Times reported. More than 40 others were reported injured.
