ATLANTA, Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Atlanta police say the former son-in-law of late soul singer James Brown may have been slain in a contract killing related to the victim's business dealings.
Darren Lumar, 38, died Nov. 5 after managing to drive himself to Northside Hospital to be treated for gunshot wounds to his ankles, wrists and chest, said Atlanta Police Lt. Keith Meadows.
Lumar called himself an investor and the killing may be related to Lumar's business dealings, Meadows told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in a story published Thursday.
"Some people took objection to the way he did business," Meadows said, noting Lumar told police he was pulling into the garage of his townhouse in Buckhead, Ga., when an armed man rushed in and began shooting.
Lumar was divorced from Yamma Brown Lumar, daughter of the "Godfather of Soul" James Brown, who died December 2006 at the age of 73.
