Cheneys give Bidens tour of new home

WASHINGTON, Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Vice President-elect Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, got a tour Thursday afternoon of their future home in Washington from its current occupants.

When the Bidens arrived at the vice presidential residence at the Naval Observatory, Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife, Lynn, greeted them on the porch. The two couples posed for a photograph before going inside.

Biden and President-elect Barack Obama made Cheney -- widely regarded as the most powerful vice president in U.S. history -- an issue in the 2008 presidential campaign. But Biden and Cheney greeted each other cordially, with congratulations from Cheney on the Democratic victory.

Cheney and Biden issued noncommittal statements after the meeting. Cheney, through a spokeswoman, said the two had a "good meeting" that lasted about 50 minutes and that the vice president and his wife enjoyed showing the Bidens around the house.

Biden thanked the Cheneys for "their gracious hospitality."
