MOGADISHU, Somalia, Nov. 13 (UPI) -- A pirate ship was captured off the Somali coast by a British navy assault craft after it opened fire on the warship, officials said Thursday.

Three men reported to be pirates were killed in the shootout. Officials said the men had been involved in an attempted hijacking of a Danish cargo ship.

The HMS Cumberland and a companion British ship were packed with commandos armed with machine guns and SA80 rifles when confronted, The Times of London said.
