KIGALI, Rwanda, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Rwandan protesters say they're outraged over the arrest in Germany of Rose Kabuye, one of President Paul Kagame's top aides.
Demonstrators on Monday crowded into the Kilgali streets outside of the German Embassy and the offices of German broadcaster Deutsche Welle, protesting the Frankfurt arrest of Kabuye in connection with the 1994 plane crash of Rwandan President Juvenal Habyarimana, the Daily Nation, Kenya, reported.
Kabuye was arrested on a warrant issued by French magistrate Jean-Louis Bruguiere for alleged involvement in the episode, which is believed to have touched off the Rwandan genocide of Tutsis that claimed more than 1 million lives.
Habyarimana's plane was shot down near the Kilgali airport. French investigators blamed the incident on Kagame and his Tutsi supporters. Rwandan protesters claim France is motivated by politics and is seeking to cover up its alleged roles in the genocide that followed Habyarimana's death.
Kabuye appeared in court Sunday where the German judge offered her the option to contest the warrant there or face charges in France. She chose the latter, the Daily Nation reported.
