KENT, Wash., Nov. 11 (UPI) -- The guardian for a developmentally disabled woman allegedly impregnated by a caretaker in Washington state believes she has been raped at least twice before.
The woman, identified only as Jamie, is blind, cannot speak and appears to have the intellectual ability of a baby. In March, she had a miscarriage, and DNA testing suggested that a male nursing assistant at Integrated Living Systems in Kent was responsible for the pregnancy, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported.
Police records show that an investigation two years ago into an alleged assault on Jamie was closed because of a lack of evidence, the newspaper said. A different employee was named as a "person of interest."
Jamie's guardian, who wanted to be identified only as Bessie, said she believes Jamie was sexually assaulted as a teenager when she was living at the Fircrest Residential Habilitation Center in Shoreline.
More recently, Jamie has been sharing an apartment with other developmentally disabled adults, with Integrated Living Systems providing caregivers.
"I feel so betrayed," Bessie, the ex-wife of Jamie's father, said. "I trusted them with my daughter. They made me guilty, too, because I could not protect her."
