BEIJING, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- A newly-built workshop collapsed in China's quake-rattled northwest Qinghai province, killing five workers and seriously injuring another, officials said.
The incident occurred Monday afternoon at the Jinyuan Cement Factory in Donghe Town, the state-run Xinhua news agency reported.
The report quoted a company official as saying the workshop collapsed as the workers were putting finishing touches to it, burying six people. The injured victim was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was reported in critical condition but was expected to live, the report said.
Local officials had no comment on whether the building collapse might have resulted from a 6.3-magnitude earthquake that rocked the region earlier in the day.
The quake and aftershocks reportedly cracked walls of some houses near the epicenter but there was no report of widespread damage.
