EDWARDSVILLE, Ill., Nov. 11 (UPI) -- A Illinois judge revoked a $1 million bond on former college student Olutosin Oduwole for allegedly trying to buy a gun while awaiting trial on terror charges.
Madison County Judge Richard Tognarelli Monday revoked Oduwole's bond after a firearms dealer alleged Oduwole tried last month to obtain a semiautomatic handgun, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Tuesday.
Oduwole, a former Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville student, had been free on bail and awaiting trial for allegedly making a terroristic threat in 2007, the Post-Dispatch reported.
Campus police alleged they found a note in Oduwole's car in July 2007 that appeared to threaten a massacre at a large university unless $50,000 was paid to his PayPal account. The note allegedly referred to a student's rampage at Virginia Tech several months earlier that left 32 people dead.
Oduwole has said he committed no crime and the note contained lyrics for a possible rap song. As for trying to obtain the semiautomatic, Oduwole said he has been threatened lately and wanted the gun for safety reasons, said his lawyer, Jeffrey Urdangen.
