Pakistani reported killed at checkpoint

SWAT VALLEY, Pakistan, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- A Pakistani reporter was killed Sunday by security troops in the Swat Valley tourist region after allegedly refusing to stop at a checkpoint, sources say.

CNN, citing an unnamed Pakistani military source as well as the chief editor of the Pakistan International Press Agency, said part-time reporter Omar Muhammad Shoaib was killed by security forces in the northwest Pakistan valley.

Shoaib was shot five times after ignoring orders to stop his vehicle, the source told CNN.

Taliban insurgents are increasingly active in the Swat Valley despite a cease-fire, officials say.
