Two children freed from Haitian collapse

PETIONVILLE, Haiti, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Rescue workers freed two children Saturday at a school in Haiti where nearly 200 children were trapped when the structure collapsed, an official says.

Rob Drouen, a spokesman for the International Committee of the Red Cross, said the two children were found unharmed amid the wreckage of the school in Petioinville and were reunited with their families, CNN reported.

The death toll from Friday's catastrophe rose to 82 after an additional 21 bodies were found inside a classroom, President Rene Preval said.

The Haitian officials said one of the newly discovered bodies was that of a teacher, while the rest were students at the College La Promesse Evangelique.

The U.S. government sent rescue workers to Haiti, the Haiti Press Network reported. A search and rescue team from Fairfax County, Virginia, arrived Saturday morning with 38 people, four search dogs and thousands of pounds of supplies.

A member of the country's Parliament has questioned whether the rebuilt school was over its student capacity when the building fell, CNN reported.
