Obama denies missile shield commitment

WARSAW, Poland, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- U.S. President-elect Barack Obama has not committed to building a U.S. missile defense system in Poland, despite a Polish statement to the contrary.

Polish President Lech Kaczynski's office said on its Web site that Obama intends to continue plans for an anti-missile shield in Eastern Europe, CNN reported.

Obama foreign policy adviser Denis McDonough said Obama had had "a good conversation" with Kaczynski about the American-Polish relations and discussed missile defense, but "made no commitment on it," BBC reported Saturday.

The Web site also reported Obama told Kaczynski he hoped for continued cooperation between the United States and Poland.
