WASHINGTON, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- John McCain, fresh off his White House campaign loss, will return to the U.S. Senate for a possible lame-duck session this month, staffers say.
McCain, who presents Arizona in the Senate, lost the 2008 presidential election this week to Democratic Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois. McCain Chief of Staff Mark Buse told CNN McCain is "eager" to get back to work in the Senate.
He will focus specifically on Iraq, Afghanistan and the struggling economy, Buse told the broadcaster.
McCain also intends to make his first post-election television appearance, set for Tuesday on NBC's "The Tonight Show" with host Jay Leno, in honor of Veterans Day, TVWeek reported. It will be McCain's first late-night talk show appearance since an interview with David Letterman on CBS's "The Late Show" in mid-October.
