Larijani raps Obama's Iran comments

TEHRAN, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Iran's Parliament speaker says U.S. President-elect Barack Obama is going in "the wrong direction" by opposing the Middle East country's nuclear program.

Ali Larijani, citing Obama's Friday comments that a nuclear-armed Iran would be "unacceptable," told state-run media Saturday Obama doesn't seem to be sincere in his calls for change when it comes to U.S. relations with Iran.

Quoting the semi-official Mehr News Agency, CNN reported Larijani as saying, "Obama must know that the change that he talks about is not simply a superficial changing of colors or tactics. What is expected is a change in strategy, not the repetition of objections to Iran's nuclear program, which will be taking a step in the wrong direction."

In his first news conference as president-elect, Obama said he would help lead an international effort to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, the broadcaster reported.
