Hu, Obama have post-election phone call

BEIJING, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao had his first telephone conversation Saturday with the incoming U.S. president, Barack Obama.

Hu thanked Obama for his emphasis, during the campaign, on the importance of the relationship between their two countries, Xinhua, the official Chinese government news agency, reported.

The two leaders discussed the global financial crisis, and Hu told Obama he hopes the financial summit set for Nov. 15 in Washington will include a discussion of ways to restore confidence in financial markets and regulate the international financial system.

Hu said the relationship between the United States and China has continued to grow closer since diplomatic relations were resumed 30 years ago, despite setbacks.
