Wright: Obama win no sign of deep change

HARTFORD, Conn., Nov. 7 (UPI) -- The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, President-elect Barack Obama's former pastor, said the election does not mean a total change in the United States.

Wright spoke on "The Bible, Race and American History" during a panel discussion in Connecticut, The Hartford Courant reported Friday. His appearance Thursday night at the Theological Education Institute of Hartford was his first since Obama's election.

"My biggest fear is that we will take what's just happened in this country and think a whole lot has changed," Wright said. "If you take a Tiger Woods, a Michael Jordan or a Barack Obama, their success should not lull us into thinking society has changed."

Wright responded to questions about the campaign, where he became the focus of controversy, and the election, although he did not address them directly in his speech. He said that his remarks were taken out of context to attack Obama.

"The media didn't care about the whole sermon and what it was about," he said. They just used those 10 seconds and used it as a weapon of mass destruction against his campaign."
