N.D. Gov. Hoeven re-elected

FARGO, N.D., Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Republican North Dakota Gov. John Hoeven cruised to a third term Tuesday by a wide margin over Democratic State Sen. Tim Mathern.

Hoeven took credit for good economic times in North Dakota during the campaign while portraying Mathern as lacking conviction on fiscal restraint and waffling on authorization for a new state penitentiary.

Mathern last month unveiled a comprehensive plan for the state that would have provided healthcare coverage for children and increased the cash flow of hospitals and doctors.
