Montana Gov. Schweitzer wins second term

HELENA, Mont., Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Democratic incumbent Brian Schweitzer defeated Republican State Sen. Roy Brown in the Montana gubernatorial race Tuesday.

Schweitzer was elected to a second term after stressing the boost Montana's economy has enjoyed from the energy sector.

Schweitzer was endorsed by the Billings Gazette, which said Brown was too focused on energy as an engine of growth for Montana while Schweitzer was doing a better job promoting education and other sectors of the economy.

"In a second term, Schweitzer must continue his economic development efforts and put a bit more focus on urban economies," the newspaper said. "Montana's largest cities are engines of economic growth that generate jobs and revenues for regions far beyond city limits."
