KHAN YUNIS, Gaza, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- Israeli military aircraft struck fighter locations in Gaza overnight Tuesday, killing at least five men, Palestinian officials said.

The air strikes, which occurred after seven shells were fired at Israel, marked the first fatalities since a cease-fire was invoked in June, The Jerusalem Post reported.

"This is a serious breach of the truce understandings reached through Egyptian mediation," Hamas spokesman Taher Nunu said in an e-mail message to reporters. "We consider this the most serious in a string of breaches."

Earlier Tuesday night, Israeli forces entered Gaza to blow up a tunnel dug by Hamas terrorists with the apparent intent of kidnapping Israeli soldiers, the newspaper said. One Israeli soldier was wounded in a firefight.

The militants blew up a house where the tunnel surfaced, causing an explosion that indicated a "large amount of explosives," a military source told the Post.
