KABUL, Afghanistan, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- U.S. Army Gen. David Petraeus made his first visit Tuesday to Afghanistan as head of Central Command.

Petraeus arrived in Kabul after a two-day visit to Pakistan, KUNA, the Kuwait News Agency, reported.

The Taliban is on the rise in Afghanistan. Abdul Qayoom Katawazi, head of intelligence in Kandahar province, said that his deputy was shot dead Monday evening in the city of Kandahar by gunmen on a motorbike, CNN reported.

On Tuesday, three Afghan police officers were killed in the central part of the country when their vehicle hit a mine, KUNA said.

In Pakistan, top leaders complained to Petraeus about U.S. cross-border attacks on suspected terrorists carried out by Predator drones.
