GOP's Collins retains her U.S. Senate seat

AUGUSTA, Maine, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, won re-election Tuesday night to a seat Democrats had once eyed as competitive, results indicate.

Collins, 55, Maine's junior senator, held out against Democratic U.S. Rep. Tom Allen, 63, The New York Times reported.

Collins, a two-term incumbent, is known for her bipartisanship in Washington.
