Doctor sentenced for Medicare fraud

MIAMI, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- A Miami doctor was sentenced to 84 months in federal prison Monday for $26.2 million in Medicare fraud.

Dr. Ronald Harris, 58, had pleaded guilty in August to several counts of conspiracy and submitting false claims to the Medicare program as medical director for two Miami-area HIV clinics.

Meanwhile, another judge sentenced medical clinic administrator Mariela Rodriguez, 40, to 70 months in prison for her role in a fraudulent HIV treatment reimbursement scheme. Rodriguez, who ran another HIV Miami-area clinic, also had pleaded guilty in August
