Czech radar opponents demand review

PRAGUE, Czech Republic, Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Opponents of a plan to put anti-missile radar in the Czech Republic say the country's Constitutional Court should examine the agreements.

The agreement to deploy the U.S. radar, signed last July by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg, still must be ratified by both houses of Parliament and signed by President Vaclav Klaus, RIA Novosti reported Monday.

Polls suggest 70 percent of Czech citizens oppose the radar, including members of the Social Democratic Party, which is demanding a review by the Constitutional Court, RIA Novosti reported.

Plans call for the radar to be built about 55 miles south of Prague as part of a system that would include putting 10 interceptor missiles in Poland.
