COLUMBUS, Ohio, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama leads Republican John McCain in the battleground state of Ohio, a poll indicates.
A poll by The Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch found that Obama leads in the Buckeye State 52 percent to 46 percent.
The newspaper said if Obama's lead holds, the Illinois senator will become the first Democrat to win more than 50 percent of the Ohio vote since Lyndon B. Johnson did it in 1964.
The survey shows Obama has a 14-point lead among those who already have cast a ballot under Ohio's early-voting law, the newspaper reported.
Obama has the support of 90 percent of African-Americans, while McCain has the support of 51 percent of white voters, the poll indicates.
The mail survey of 2,164 likely voters was conducted Oct. 22 through Friday. It has a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
