DALLAS, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- A Democratic judicial candidate in Dallas was attacked and bitten multiple times by a pit bull Saturday while out campaigning, a party official said.

Ken Molberg, who is running for the 95th Civil District Court post, was going door to door with a fellow candidate, Judge Don Adams, when the attack occurred, The Dallas Morning News reported Sunday.

The newspaper reported he was bitten on the upper leg and groin. Molberg was walking up to a house and saw the dog through an open door. The dog ran out and attacked him, said Steve Tillery, executive director of the Dallas County Democratic Party.

Molberg, who needed 17 stitches after the attack, said he punched and kicked the dog then got onto a car to get away from the animal.

"My crack to the family that helped me was that it must have been a Republican dog," he said.
