McCain, Obama face off in 2008 Presidential election

WASHINGTON, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was "mildly amused" to learn two DJs convinced her she was on the phone with French President Nicolas Sarkozy, her campaign says.

The Masked Avengers, disc jockeys on Montreal's CKOI-FM, managed to get Palin on the telephone and then recorded the conversation, in which the Republican vice presidential nominee -- thinking she was speaking with Sarkozy -- said: "We have such great respect for you, John McCain and I. We love you."

When the fake Sarkozy said he sees Palin as a possible U.S. president, she laughed and said, "Maybe in eight years."

Her campaign issued a statement Saturday saying the Alaska governor was amused to learn she had joined Sarkozy and other high-profile figures as "victims" of the Masked Avengers' pranks, Politico reported.

"Gov. Palin was mildly amused to learn that she had joined the ranks of heads of state, including President Sarkozy, and other celebrities in being targeted by these pranksters," the statement said. "C'est la vie."
