HANOI, Vietnam, Nov. 1 (UPI) -- Twenty-four people have been killed from floods triggered by the heaviest rains Vietnam has seen in 20 years, officials said Saturday.

Some of the dead were in the capital Hanoi, the BBC reported. Also hard hit was the province of Nghe An, where 11 died and residents reported streets turning into rivers with chest-high waters.

Twenty-five people died in September from heavy rains in Vietnam. The BBC quoted local meteorologists as saying 13 inches of rain fell in Hanoi Friday.
