Poll: Republicans critical of the media

ROCHESTER, N.Y., Oct. 31 (UPI) -- Republicans are more critical than Democrats of media coverage of the U.S. presidential race, a poll indicates.

The Harris Poll found that 65 percent of Republicans say they believe media coverage of the election has unfairly favored Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama. Sixteen percent of respondents said the race coverage has been fair.

By comparison, 54 percent of Democrats say the press has fairly covered Obama's race against Republican John McCain. Twelve percent of Democratic respondents the media coverage has favored McCain.

Overall, 36 percent of voters say they feel media coverage has been fair to both candidates, with 34 percent of respondents saying press coverage has favored Obama and 9 percent saying coverage has unfairly favored McCain.

The Harris Poll of 2,119 U.S. adults was conducted online between Oct. 16 and Oct. 20. The margin of error was not reported.
