A Field Poll of likely voters found that 49 percent oppose Proposition 8, which would amend the state constitution to undo a ruling by the California Supreme Court that same-sex marriage is legal. Forty-four percent of those surveyed said they support the measure.
A Field Poll conducted in September indicated that 52 percent opposed Proposition 8 while 38 percent supported it.
The poll released Friday also indicated that Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama has a 22 point lead over Republican John McCain -- with 55 percent backing Obama and just 33 percent going for McCain. If those numbers hold, Obama would end up with the biggest margin of victory in a California presidential vote since World War II, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The poll of 966 likely voters was conducted Oct 18-28 and has a margin of error of 3.3 percentage points.
