PAMPLONA, Spain, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- A car bomb exploded at a Spanish university Thursday, injuring 17 people, in an attack authorities blamed on the Basque separatist group ETA.

The explosion at the University of Navarra in Pamplona set off a massive blaze as fuel tanks in nearby parked cars caught fire, Bernardino Leon, a university professor, told the Spanish Antena 3 TV network.

The 17 injured suffered from glass cuts and hearing problems, a spokeswoman for Clinica Universitaria de Navarra, across the street from the university, told CNN.

She did not identify the injured or their nationalities.

Some 400 people were evacuated from the campus' Central Building, although the rest of the campus continued to operate as usual, university spokesman Jesus Diaz told CNN.

The blast came two days after the arrest of four suspected members of the illegal armed Basque separatist group ETA -- including three arrested in the Navarra region.

Authorities in the Basque province of Alava received a warning call in the name of ETA warning of a car bomb at a university campus, but not saying which campus, Spain's CNN+ news channel reported.

Authorities said they suspected ETA -- which stands for Euskadi Ta Askatasuna, or Basque Homeland and Freedom -- was responsible for the blast.

ETA is blamed for more than 800 killings since 1968. The European Union and the United States list ETA as a terrorist group.
