Decomposed body found in motor home

SAN CLEMENTE, Calif., Oct. 30 (UPI) -- The decomposed body of a woman was found in a freezer in an abandoned motor home in Southern California, officials said.

The body was found Tuesday by employees of AC Tow in San Clemente, Calif., after the RV sat in their yard for 25 days, the Los Angeles Times reported Thursday.

When tow yard workers entered the motor home to inventory its contents they detected a strong odor before they found the human remains wrapped in plastic inside a freezer.

Authorities say they believe the body may be that of Rebekah Butterfield, a missing 22-year-old woman. Her father, Clarence Butterfield, is the motor home's owner.

He is a suspect in the apparent homicide, Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jim Amormino said.

"The body was possibly in that freezer for several months to a couple years," Amormino said.

Clarence Butterfield lived in the RV on his friend's property in Capistrano Beach, Calif. After he was arrested during a traffic stop last month over an outstanding warrant from Las Vegas for interfering with a police officer and resisting arrest, his friend had the motor home towed.

Clarence Butterfield remains in jail in Las Vegas, the newspaper reported.
