WASHINGTON, Oct. 29 (UPI) -- Republican presidential hopeful John McCain says Democratic challenger Barack Obama's infomercial Wednesday can't help him overcome his record.
Obama has "hundreds of millions of dollars" in campaign contributions to spend on a 30-minute infomercial "to try to show the American people" his rhetoric matches his record, McCain said on CNN's "Larry King Live."
But that may be difficult, McCain said, because the Illinois senator is to the "far left of politics. ... I don't think there's any doubt that he would increase spending."
Obama "didn't tell the American people the truth" when he said he'd consider public financing, McCain told King.
"What's happened now is there are hundreds of millions of dollars in undocumented credit card" transactions, the Arizona senator said. "Of course it opens itself up to question."
He and GOP running mate Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin "get along fine," McCain said, trying to dispel reports of campaign discord.
Should he be elected and later become incapacitated, McCain said he had "total" confidence in Palin's ability to step in because she understands the issues.
McCain said he recognizes he's the underdog.
"We know that every hour now is precious," he said.
