MONTERREY, Mexico, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- The world's fattest man has wed his longtime girlfriend in an internationally-observed ceremony in Mexico.

Manuel Uribe, who has been confined to bed for four years, was carried to the ceremony to marry hairdresser Claudia Solis, El Universal reported Monday.

Uribe, who once tipped the scales at 1235 lbs., has lost more than a quarter of a ton after making a worldwide plea for help in losing weight.

Sunday's ceremony was reportedly attended by 400 guests and was televised by the Discovery Channel.
