WESTFIELD, Mass., Oct. 27 (UPI) -- An 8-year-old Massachusetts boy has died after accidentally shooting himself in the head with a fully automatic Uzi machine gun.
Police in Westfield say the incident occurred during an event Sunday afternoon at the Westfield Sportsman's Club.
Police told the Boston Globe witnesses said the boy was shooting the gun down range when the force of the weapon made it travel up and back towards his head.
By the time emergency crews arrived, the boy was still conscious but in serious condition.
He died at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
The Globe says the shoot was organized by an Amherst company that could not be reached for comment.
