DENVER, Oct. 26 (UPI) -- Democratic U.S. presidential nominee Barack Obama on Sunday pounced on a comment by Republican John McCain that he and the president have a lot in common.
In an appearance on NBC's "Meet the Press" program, McCain said he and President George W. Bush share a "common philosophy" as Republicans.
"I guess that was John McCain finally giving us a little straight talk, and owning up to the fact that he and George Bush actually have a whole lot in common," The New York Times reported Obama as saying at a Denver rally. "Here's the thing, we know what the Bush-McCain philosophy looks like. It's a philosophy that says we should give more and more to millionaires and billionaires and hope that it trickles down on everyone else."
The Illinois senator added that what the country needs right now is "honest leadership and real change."
