NABLUS, West Bank, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Israeli military officials said Saturday they intercepted a Palestinian youth attempting to carry a pipe bomb through a checkpoint in the occupied West Bank.
Israeli Defense Forces soldiers guarding the Hawara checkpoint near Nablus allegedly found the bomb on the young man, arrested him and transferred him to security forces for questioning, Ynetnews.com reported.
Officials say the youth, whose age was not given, aroused suspicion of the soldiers and his arrest prompted other Palestinians at the roadblock to advance toward the soldiers, who fired into the air and closed the checkpoint.
The incident came after an altercation at the Fara refugee camp near Nablus in which a young man was seriously wounded by Israeli soldiers, unnamed sources told Ynetnews.com.
