MONTREAL, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Quebec transportation officials and police were investigating the crash of a loaded propane tanker truck whose design prevented a catastrophic explosion.
The accident happened Thursday in St. Hubert, 10 miles east of Montreal, when the unidentified driver of the rig lost control and flipped the double-tanker trailer on Highway 30, The Gazette newspaper in Montreal reported.
The 125-foot-long tractor-trailer ended up on its side blocking both sides of the four-lane highway, provincial police said.
The driver wasn't injured and, as of Friday morning, there was no word on charges.
Traffic chaos ensued for hours afterward as crews awaited the arrival of another tanker to offload more than 63,000 gallons of propane gas, the report said.
Police credited the tankers' double-hull construction from preventing a leak.
Michel Huguenot of the Longueuil fire department said it took five tow trucks to pull the emptied rig upright.
The highway was reopened to traffic early Friday, the report said.
