Lacrosse accuser releases book

RALEIGH, N.C., Oct. 24 (UPI) -- The woman who accused members of the Duke University lacrosse team of raping her says she thought she was going to die at the players' 2006 party.

Crystal Mangum made the comment in her new book, "The Last Dance for Grace: The Crystal Mangum Story," which was released online Friday, WRAL-TV, of Raleigh, N.C. reported.

"I genuinely believed I was going to die in there, but I did not want to," said Mangum, a student at North Carolina Central University in 2006 who worked as an exotic dancer when she performed at the party.

She said while at the party, three members of the team trapped her inside a bathroom and sexually assaulted her, the station reported.

Three Duke players -- David Evans, Collin Finnerty and Reade Seligmann -- were indicted on rape and other charges on the basis of her allegations but they were eventually exonerated.

The scandal led to the dismissal of Durham District Attorney Mike Nifong, who was also disbarred and spent a day in jail for criminal contempt.

Mangum said Thursday she still believes she was attacked.

"Yes I am still claiming that a sexual assault happened," she said.
