VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Republican presidential nominee John McCain's eldest son says signs promoting his father's candidacy were pilfered from his Virginia Beach, Va., home.

Doug McCain said five lawn signs disappeared from his front yard, with the latest theft occurring last week, The (Norfolk) Virginian-Pilot reported Wednesday. His mother has lost four signs and some neighbors reported losses, as well, he said.

McCain said he does not know if the thefts were the work of children or adults.

Supporters of both the Arizona senator and his Democratic rival, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., have reported lawn signs missing or vandalized during the campaign.

"I don't want Obama people to think it's something unique to them, because it's certainly not," Doug McCain said.
