Three teens charged in deadly shooting

DETROIT, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Three teenagers, including a police officer's son, are charged with murder in a Detroit shooting that left one person dead and three injured, an official says.

Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox said the charges were filed in 36th District Court Sunday against William Morton, 15, of Detroit, Devon Bell, 18, of Oak Park and Derryck Brantley, 18, of Detroit, The Detroit News reported Monday. In addition to first-degree murder, which carries a mandatory life sentence, they also are charged with three counts of assault with intent to murder and one count of felony firearm.

Cox said Morton was charged as an adult during Sunday's hearing.

The three teenagers were arrested hours after the deadly shooting at Henry Ford High School last Thursday.

Police suspect one of the students killed or wounded in the shooting was likely targeted by the teens after a fight at the school earlier in the day.

Detroit police have turned the case over to Michigan State Police because Brantley is the son of Detroit Police Lt. Derryck Thomas, the News reported.
