ISLAMABAD, Pakistan, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- The Pakistani military says at least 25 militants were killed in an attack by its fighter jets on a village in the Swat Valley district in the northwest region.

The bombing in the Matta area Sunday also killed 22 non-combatants and damaged a dozen homes including the guest house a militant commander which was being used as a den by the militants, Dawn newspaper reported, quoting witnesses.

The state-run Associated Press of Pakistan also reported that 25 militants were killed, adding scores more were injured and a militants' ammunition dump was destroyed.

The Dawn report quoted local people as saying the death toll might increase as a curfew in the area prevented the injured from being taken to hospitals.

Eyewitnesses told Dawn the jets made two sorties and dropped huge bombs, causing "massive destruction."

Many of the up to 6,000 people living in the area had earlier moved to safer areas, the report said.

Separately, police in Baluchistan province were quoted as saying said four people died and five others were wounded Sunday in a bomb blast triggered by remote control exploded at a bazaar in the town of Dera Bugti, about 220 miles from the provincial capital of Quetta.
