Poll: Obama has 11-point lead over McCain

PRINCETON, N.J., Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Democratic U.S. presidential nominee Barack Obama has an 11 point lead over Republican John McCain among registered voters, a poll indicates.

The Gallup Poll Daily tracking poll shows that Obama leads McCain 52 percent to 41 percent.

Obama's lead in the race shrank to six points last week, but grew in the latest Gallup poll.

Gallup's latest three-day rolling average, from Friday to Sunday, spans a weekend when McCain's running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, made her cameo appearance on NBCs "Saturday Night Live." Also, on Sunday former secretary of state and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Colin Powell, endorsed Obama for president.

"The Gallup Poll Daily tracking poll shows no shift in support for the candidates between Saturday and Sunday to suggest that either of these events had any immediate impact on voter preferences," Gallup said in its analysis.

The poll is based on a sample of 2,774 registered voters. The maximum margin of sampling error is plus or minus 2 percentage points.
