Group members accused of voting scam

COLUMBUS, Ohio, Oct. 20 (UPI) -- Members of a political action committee allegedly tried to cast early votes in Ohio despite being residents of other states, investigators say.

Investigators led by Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien allege that 13 Vote From Home members moved into an Ohio home for 30 days in order to register to take advantage of the state's early voting services, the New York Post said Monday.

"Our board of elections referred 13 suspicious registrations to us, all from people with out-of-state addresses, all of whom claim to be living in a three-bedroom house in Columbus," O'Brien said.

Ohio law allows people to register to vote in the state after being a resident for 30 day, but also requires those individuals to consider Ohio as their "permanent place of abode."

Investigators say four members of the group, which is focused on getting Ohio residents to vote, allegedly cast early ballots in Ohio.

The Post said among the suspects in the alleged voting scam are four New York residents.
