CINCINNATI, Oct. 19 (UPI) -- The University of Cincinnati is suing a would-be student who allegedly signed up on the Internet for classes before she decided to attend a different school.
Angela Caliguri is being sued for $6,300 because the university alleges she went to the UC class registration Web site in July 2004 and registered for courses before she logged off the site, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported Sunday.
The school is suing to recover $2,335 tuition, unpaid fees and collections costs.
Caliguri said when she realized UC's tuition was higher, she logged out and enrolled at Cincinnati State.
But the University of Cincinnati said she signed up for classes and they reserved space for her.
"Angela communicated with UC many times, informing its representatives that she did not register for classes at UC and was actually attending classes at Cincinnati State during the subject quarter. However, UC's representatives refused to listen to Angela," say her court papers.
The Ohio attorney general's office is suing Caliguri on behalf of the state school.
University of Cincinnati Spokesman Greg Hand said about 2 percent of UC students don't pay tuition each year, costing the state about $6 million per year.
