MOSUL, Iraq, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- An Iraqi soldier was killed and nine others were injured in two separate bomb blasts in the city of Mosul, a police official said.

The Iraqi soldier was killed by a bomb that targeted an army patrol at al-Karama neighborhood eastern Mosul, KUNA, the Kuwait News Agency, reported Friday.

A second bomb targeted a police patrol in Mosul. The attack injured two policemen and three civilians, officials said.

Meanwhile, authorities arrested a woman Friday who apparently intended to blow herself up in the provincial city of Baqouba.

A police source reportedly said the woman was caught strapping explosives to her body, KUNA said.

The U.S. Army said in a statement that an American soldier was killed in an attack on Thursday in the same area.
