Claims delay Zimbabwean Cabinet decisions

HARARE, Zimbabwe, Oct. 17 (UPI) -- A decision regarding who will be part of Zimbabwe's power-sharing Cabinet has been delayed by an opposition political leader, sources say.

Sources said a final decision regarding the Cabinet's makeup has not been made in part because of an alleged request that previously agreed upon matters be revisited, The Herald said Friday.

Insiders said Morgan Tsvangirai, the head of the Movement for Democratic Change and the likely next prime minister of Zimbabwe, wants to discuss a number of Cabinet matters already agreed upon.

"Yesterday Tsvangirai approached the negotiating table seeking to discuss the status of two ministries, namely Home Affairs and Finance. By the close of day this had been pared down to one ministry after President Mugabe had made compromises," the unidentified sources said, referring to President Robert Mugabe.

The Herald said Mugabe recognized compromises had to made in the ongoing Cabinet talks.

"I would not want to call it (the delay) dillydallying, but we have made a lot of compromises," he said Thursday. "Everyone has made some compromises and we hope that this will be all concluded tomorrow."
