ELIZABETH, N.J., Oct. 16 (UPI) -- Two men are dead after a 37-year-old man allegedly fell asleep while driving on a New Jersey Turnpike entrance ramp Thursday, police allege.
Police said New York resident Ali Colakoglu was driving on the entrance ramp this week, when he allegedly fell asleep at the wheel and his vehicle struck two men working at a nearby construction site, The (Newark, N.J.) Star-Ledger said Thursday.
State Police Sgt. Stephen Jones alleged Colakoglu's car drove into the construction site near Exit 13A and struck Steven Sprague, 28, and Richard Brady, 20, before pinning both men to a dump truck.
Both men were pronounced dead at the scene of Thursday morning's apparent accident, Jones told the Star-Ledger.
The newspaper said Colakoglu is being held for questioning as an investigation into the incident takes place.
